The defending champion and " THE KING OF CLAY " was defeated today at Roland Garros by the Swedish , Robin Soderling . It was a tough match for both of them , but Soderling made historic win over Rafael Nadal ( 6-2 6-7(2) 6-4 7-6(2) ) . This is the first time that Nadal lost in Roland Garros .
Since making his debut at Roland Garros in 2005, Nadal had lost just seven sets en route to winning four successive titles and was bidding to win an unprecedented fifth straight Coupe des Mousquetaires.
Nadals hopes of becoming the first player, man or woman, to win the French Open five times in a row are gone, dashed as the scintillating Swede played the game of his life.
